Hosting a CARO trial is a great way to bring the sport of Rally Obedience to your area while supporting local competitors and fostering the inclusive, welcoming spirit that CARO is known for.
Both individuals and organizations can host CARO trials, but the organizer must be a professional CARO member in good standing. As the host, you’ll assume all responsibilities for reports, payments, and any potential fines.
What to Consider Before Hosting
Planning Timeline:
The trial application must be submitted at least 6 weeks prior for Rally or Combination trials and 3 weeks prior for Working-only trials.
Location Considerations:
- Check the calendar if other CARO trials are scheduled within 250km of your chosen weekend
- If you haven’t hosted a CARO trial before, make sure your venue/facility meets the requirements.
- The venue must have non-slippery floors
- Adequate space: minimum 1,500 sq ft for Rally; 900 sq ft for Working (3 or fewer exercises) or 1,500 sq ft for Working (4+ exercises)
Judge Availability:
We recommend securing a judge before you send in your trial application.
You can find more details in the Trial Officials handbook under the Handbook section, or you can reach out to your Regional Director to help you get started on your trial host journey.
