Rally vs Working

Rally is a sport with a focus on heeling while performing a number of skills. The dog and handler are always in close proximity, moving together as a team throughout the course. The concept of a single continuous performance, uninterrupted by orders from the judge, demands a sustained communication between the dog and handler.

The Novice and Intermediate levels are performed on leash, with progressive levels offering increasing challenges. Rally offers 6 different levels of difficulty: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Excellent, Versatility, Versatility Excellent.  Participants are scored on a course comprised of 15 to 20 stations.

Created in 2012, Working is a distinct titling division within CARO. This is not an entry level program. It requires off-leash control and the ability of the dog to work under independently and at a distance from the handler.

Dogs and handlers execute exercises from a variety of dog sports, including obedience, scent detection, agility and more, in a fun and unique format. Working exercises demonstrate the incredible versatility of dogs, relying on a range of natural canine instincts, precise training and the partnership between dog and handler.

Working consists of 10 separate exercises that may be performed at 3 different levels: Rookie, Elite and Expert. Working exercises are evaluated individually.
